Pieter Geelen - Co-Founder and Director of Software Development, Tom Tom NV
Pieter Geelen is one of the four founders of TomTom.
Pieter was the programmer who developed the navigation and mapping software that would revolutionise people's in-car experience and help make TomTom a household name around the globe.
He has held various roles at TomTom, including Chief Technology Officer, Head of User Experience and Head of Software Development. Today, Pieter is involved in innovation projects across the entire company, bringing his experience and technical expertise to each project.
Pieter is passionate about innovation with more than 100 patents to his name. This includes Map Code (www.mapcode.com), a way to represent any location on Earth in an easy code consisting of two letters and two numbers. Map Code was invented by Pieter Geelen and Harold Goddijn in 2001 and donated to the public domain in 2008.
Pieter received his master's degree in computer science from the University of Amsterdam.
